Because smoking is a repetitive habit, the effects of inhaling add up over time. Your relationship with smoking will make you feel out of breath when walking up a short flight of stairs, cough a lot, spit up mucus and have repeat chest infections. These are not signs of aging or being out of shape. They are signs that smoking is damaging your lungs.

Smoking decreases capillary blood flow to your skin, leaving it without many of the nutrients it needs to stay young and fresh. This will make your skin look leathery, even though you’re young. The result – you guessed it, wrinkles.

The tar from holding your smokes turns your fingers yellow and stains your fingernails.

Smoking will stain your teeth, give you bad breath, and give you a higher chance of gum disease – even if you’re young. Something else to keep in mind is that there is an even greater risk of getting oral cancer if you smoke.

Smoking can also make you more prone to peptic ulcers (ulceration of the mucous membrane within the esophagus, stomach or duodenum which can be extremely painful). They don’t heal as fast in smokers, and they’re more likely to recur.

Being a smoker can make you twice as likely as a non-smoker to develop psoriasis – a disfiguring red and silver rash that can occur anywhere on your body.
